Joe Sakic Celebriduck

Joe Sakic was born on July 7, 1969 in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. He played junior hockey for the Swift Current Broncos and was named Athlete of the Year in the CHL. He accumulated an amazing 138 goals and 155 assists in his last two years of junior.

Joe was drafted 15^th overall, by the Quebec Nordiques, in the 1987 entry draft. He joined a team that was struggling and unfortunately the Nordiques finished last for three consecutive seasons. Despite the trouble the team was having, Joe managed to become the first player ever to get over 100 points with the last place team. He did this in his second and third season in the league.

Joe played a big part in turning the Nordiques around, however, Quebec fans never got a chance to celebrate a Stanley Cup. In 1995, the team was sold and moved to Colorado where they won the Stanley Cup the very first year. In 22 playoff games, Joe led the tournament with 18 goals, 34 points and six game-winning goals (an NHL record) and won the Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP honours.

Joe Sakic has become one of the best offensive players in the league. He is a gifted goal scorer and is also capable of making a great play. He is fast, patient, creative with the puck and has a great shot. He is also good on draws and is an asset on both the power play and penalty kill.
